Thoughtful Expressions Watercolor Card for the Inspirations in Ink February 2024 Blog Hop

Welcome! Thank you for visiting Theresa’s Treasures Paper Crafts to see my Thoughtful Expressions Watercolor Card! I am Theresa, a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator in Arizona, USA. Today is the monthly Inspirations in Ink Blog Hop! I am excited to be hopping with talented demonstrators from around the world. Be sure to check out everyone’s Thoughtful Expressions Bundle projects. The Thoughtful Expressions Bundle is in the 2024 January to April Mini Catalog. If you want your own, order before February 29,2024 so you can get Sale-a-bration Rewards! You may order from my Online Store HERE.

Why did I make this Thoughtful Expressions Watercolor Card? I am interested in learning to watercolor. The Stampin’ Up!® Inks are so vivid and work very well. I have been using a Nylon Round 1 paintbrush. If you would like to try watercoloring, there is a lot of trial and error. Don’t be afraid to try. There are many happy accidents that turn out well!

Instructions for Card Base

Make the Pumpkin Pie card base. Here is a pattern. Use your Paper Trimmer to make a cut at 1 1/2 and at 4 inches down to the 4 1/4 inch score line (solid lines).

Turn the card base and make a score at 2 inches from the 4 inch to the 1 1/2 inch cut (dotted line). Use the Bone Folder to fold on the score lines. Set the card base aside.

Instructions to make the card

  1. Stamp a pumpkin, the bunch of flowers and a single flower with the Memento Ink. Color the images with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers as desired.
  2. Use the Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze and Daffodil Delight Ink to stamp one leaf in each color.
  3. Die cut the above images with the Rustic Pumpkin Dies.
  4. Use the Rustic Pumpkin Dies and the Granny Apple Green cs to cut one of each of the three vines.

5. Color the leaves on the strips of Rustic Harvest DSP with the Watercolor Pencils in Real Red, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie.

6. Use the Pumpkin Pie Ink to stamp the “Grateful for all that you do” sentiment on the end of the 3 x 4 inch Very Vanilla cs. Punch the sentiment out with the Label Me Fancy Punch.

7. Stamp the sentiment “Sending Caring Thoughts” on the upper third of the 2 1/4 x 4 inch Very Vanilla cs. Add the little the flower.

8. Adhere the side flaps to the inside of the card base. Then adhere the strips of the Rustic Harvest DSP that have been colored to each of the flaps.

9. Next adhere the inside Very Vanilla cs in between the 2 strips of DSP.

10. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the punched sentiment to the bottom of the inside.

11. Close the card. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals on the center of the pumpkin to adhere it to the center flap, under the 2 inch score line. Add two of the Granny Apple Green cs vines on the pumpkin. Arrange and adhere the three leaves. Add the third vine is adhered over the Cajun Craze leaf on the right (see completed card).

Fun Fold Friday: Stampin’ Up!® Blessings of Home and Slim Line Sayings

Hello! Yay for Friday! I have a nice Fun Fold card for you today using both the Blessings of Home and Slim Line Sayings stamp sets. The Heart & Home Designer Series Paper (DSP) really adds a beautiful touch.

I recommend trying to cut this card out with plain paper first. It took a couple of tries for me to get it the way I wanted. Hopefully you’ll get it on the first go around!

Measurements

Blessings of Home and Slim Line Sayings You Are Fabulous Fun Fold Card

  • Night of Navy Card Stock (CS) card base: 5 1/2 x 11 inches
  • Night of Navy CS: 2 3/8 x 3 1/2 inches
  • Misty Moonlight CS: 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inch
  • Basic White CS: 4 x 5 1/4 inch, 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inches, and a label from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies
  • Heart & Home DSP: 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inches

Ink: Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight

Preparing the Card Base

First make a score line at 3 3/8 and 7 5/8 inches. Then make a small notch on the horizontal axis at 1 1/8 and 9 7/8 inches, and on the vertical axis at 1 3/4 inches on each side.

Next make a cut between the score line and notch on the upper part of the card base bilaterally. Finally, cut between the 1 3/4 inch notch on the side and the notch on the bottom bilaterally.

Preparing the Front Panels

I found it easiest to make a pattern to use for this piece. Make a notch on the 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inch Basic White CS 1 5/8 inches down the right-hand side and 1 1/8 inches in on the bottom from the right. Use this to cut the 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inch Heart & Home DSP.

To make the other side, flip the pattern over. Note: This isn’t critical with a solid color, but would be if you were using a DSP on both panels. Cut the 3 1/8 x 5 1/4 inch Misty Moonlight CS. Then run this piece through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder.

Stamping

Using the Misty Moonlight Ink Stamp Off once, then stamp the bunch of flowers from the Blessing of Home stamp set onto the label. Use the Night of Navy Ink to stamp the sentiment “You Really Are FABULOUS” onto the label. The sentiment is from the Slim Sayings stamp set.

Use the Misty Moonlight, Stamping Off once, to stamp the larger flowers onto the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Basic White CS. Then use the Night of Navy Ink to stamp the sentiment. This sentiment is in the Blessings of Home stamp set.

Assembling the Card

This is the back side of the card. Adhere the embossed Misty Moonlight CS to the left side and the Heart & Home DSP on the right.

Turn the card base over and adhere the inside panel.

Now adhere the sentiment label to the 2 3/8 x 3 1/2 inch Night of Navy CS. Place the sentiment label on the front of the card for placement.

Holding the sentiment in place, open the card. Draw a line with a pencil to mark the edge of the front of the card. Place Stampin’ Dimensionals where the label will adhere to the card front. Adhere the sentiment to the front of the card base.

Add some Bumblebee Trinkets and Voila! you have a fabulous card for someone fabulous!

Thank you for being so fabulous and visiting my blog. Have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Measurements

Snowflake Wishes Fun Fold Friday Thank You Card

  • Gorgeous Grape Card Stock (CS): 4 1/4 x 11 inches scored at 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 inches and 2 3/4 x 4 inches.
  • Highland Heather CS: 4 x 6 inches.
  • Basic White CS: 2 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches and 4 x 5 1/4 inches.
  • One Wonderful Snowflake

Links to the supplies are listed at the end of this blog.

Stamping Your Own Designer Series Paper (DSP)

Start out by stamping the largest snowflake in Highland Heather Ink onto the 4 x 6 inch Highland Heather CS. Then Stamp Off once when stamping the next to the largest snowflake.

Next use the Gorgeous Grape Ink and the medium sized snowflakes to stamp in the empty spaces.

To finish this card piece, stamp in Misty Moonlight Ink using the group of tiny snowflakes. This may not look great at this point, but when it is cut up and adhered to the card it will look fantastic!

More Stamping

The next step is to stamp the front of the card. Start by using the Misty Moonlight Ink to stamp the sentiment “Thank You Snow Much” onto the 2 1/2 x 3 3/4 inch Basic White CS. Then Stamp Off once using the largest snowflake with Highland Heather Ink. Using the next to the largest snowflake, stamp at full strength using Highland Heather Ink.

Use the Gorgeous Grape Ink to stamp a medium sized snowflake around the edges.

Finish this card piece by stamping the group of medium snowflakes in Misty Moonlight Ink.

Use the Misty Moonlight Ink with the group of medium snowflakes to stamp around the upper left-hand corner of the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Basic White CS. This will be the inside of the card.

Assembling the Snowflake Wishes Thank You Gift Card Holder

The first step is to cut up the DSP that you made. Cut at 2 1/4 inches and 3 1/4 inches.

Fold the Gorgeous Grape CS card base at the 5 1/2 inch score line. Then fold at the 2 1/2 inch score line. Adhere the 2 3/4 x 4 inch DSP to the left and the 2 1/4 x 4 inch DSP to the right.

Adhere the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Basic White CS to the inside. Then adhere the 1 x 4 inch DSP to the right-hand side of the Basic White CS.

Punch the end with the Label Me Lovely Punch to create a notch.

Turn the card front over and apply Tear & Tape Adhesive to the upper and lower edges. Tip: Use the Take Your Pick tool to peel the protective cover off.

Fold the card front to adhere the edges and make the pocket for the gift card.

Adhere the Basic White CS card front to the corresponding Gorgeous Grape CS. Lay on the front of the card base to get positioning.

Tip: Flip the card front over to see where to adhere the Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Finishing Touches

Add a finishing touch by applying the Wonderful Snowflake.

And of course-add Bling! The Rhinestone Basic Jewels will add some extra sparkle!

Voila! Such a wonderful way to thank those around you!

Stampin’ Up! Eden’s Garden Fun Fold Friday Birthday Card

Hello and Happy Friday! I am so happy to be so close to the weekend! Today I am sharing my Stampin’ Up! Eden’s Garden Fun Fold Friday Birthday Card! Yes, Fun Fold Friday is back!

Disclaimer: Today’s card is a little challenging. I am using few techniques. Let me know if you have any comments or questions about the instructions.

Today I have a very special card to share. My neighbor, who I have know for about 23 years, is turning 98! I am so excited for her! I am giving her this card to help her celebrate! Happy Birthday Jane!

The Card Base

Using the Stampin’ Up! Paper Trimmer I created the card base in Soft Succulent Card Stock (CS) with the measurements as shown above. All of the lines are scored except the two vertical lines at 1 1/4 inches and 4 1/4 inches which run from 1 inch to 5 1/4 inches in length. You will need to cut the paper along those lines. Fold as shown above.

Measurements

The first layer is Evening Evergreen CS. You will need two 1 x 3 inch pieces, a 3 x 2 3/4 inch piece and a
5 1/4 x 3/4 inch piece. The patterned paper is some of the Ever Eden Cotton Paper that I embossed with Gold Emboss Powder. You can see how to make your own patterned paper HERE. Each measurement is 1/8 inch smaller than the Evening Evergreen CS. You will need two 7/8 x 2 7/8 inch pieces, a 2 7/8 x 2 5/8 inch piece and a 5 1/8 x 5/8 inch piece. If 1/8 inches drives you nuts, you could decrease the Evening Evergreen CS measurements by 1/4 inch instead. The border would be a bit thicker.

The Gold Foil circle is from the Tasteful Labels Dies. The square is made using Partial Die Cutting with a die from the Scalloped Contours Dies. The small flower sprigs are in the Eden Dies. The center photo shows the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set die cut with the Layered Circle Dies. The leaves and berries image is from the Eden’s Garden stamp set. This is fussy cut.

Putting the Card Base Together

The first step is to adhere the Gold Embossed Ever Eden Cotton Paper to the Evening Evergreen CS. I used a thin layer of the Multipurpose Liquid Glue spread with my finger on the back of the Embossed Cotton Paper. Then adhere these card pieces to the corresponding spot on the card base.

Adhere the 2 7/8 x 2 5/8 inch Gold Embossed Ever Eden Cotton Paper to the 3 x 2 3/4 inch Evening Evergreen CS. Follow by using Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the Gold Foil scalloped piece. Adhere this card piece to the center of the card base.

Adding The Decor

Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the stamped leaves and berries card piece to the center of the Gold Foil scalloped square. Adhere the “Happy Birthday” sentiment to the Gold Foil circle. Then use Stampin’ Dimensionals on the bottom half to adhere it to the front of the card base. Note: I put the Stampin’ Dimensionals only in the center of the stamped leaves and berries piece so that I can insert the flower sprigs around the edges.

Insert several of the Evening Evergreen CS flower sprigs around the sentiment and around the leaves and berries image. Add the Gold Foil flower sprigs.

Add a 5 1/4 x 3 inch Very Vanilla CS to the inside of the card. I stamped a few leaves at the edge in Evening Evergreen ink.

Bling!

Now for some Bling! The Garden Gems are really interesting. They appear to be Evening Evergreen with gold accents, but when photographed turn blue and red in places! Very cool!

Voila! You have a very special birthday card that is a little challenging but worth the effort!

It was so nice to have you drop by today. I hope you try this card out. This particular fun fold lends itself to many great cards!

Stampin’ Up!® Springtime Joy Pop-Up Easter Card

Hello and Welcome to Fun Fold Friday! Today I have a Springtime Joy Pop-Up Easter Card using the Hydrangea Hill Designer Series paper. Thank you to Jana Muller of Jana’s Paperdreams for the pop-up card idea!

This fun Easter pop-up card is actually fairly simple to make. I made about 20 of them to sell at a Bazaar I did last weekend. I also sent one to each of my siblings.

Measurements

Measurements: Gorgeous Grape Card Stock (CS) card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 4 1/4 inches; Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper (DSP): 4 x 5 1/4 inches; Basic White CS: 1 7/8 x 2 3/4 inch oval die-cut (from the Layering Ovals Dies) and 4 x 5 1/4 inches (not pictured); Gorgeous Grape CS: 3 x 4 inches scored at 1, 2 and 3 inches and 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches with a score line at 1 1/4 inches.

Stamping

Using the Gorgeous Grape ink stamp the sentiment “Easter is a lovely reminder of new beginnings” toward the bottom of the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Basic White CS.

Stamp whichever critter you like in the Memento ink and color with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. For this card I ended up using the cute sheep and the basket of eggs. The colors of Stampin’ Blends for the sheep are Gray Granite and Smoky Slate. The flowers are colored in Highland Heather, Melon Mambo, Just Jade and Daffodil Delight. I colored the Easter basket with Crumb Cake and Soft Suede and used Petal Pink, Purple Posy, Balmy Blue and So Saffron for the Easter eggs.

Assembling the Card

Adhere the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Hydrangea Hill DSP to the front of the Gorgeous Grape CS card base by applying the adhesive ONLY to the outer edge.

The next step is to use the Stitched Shapes Die Cuts and cut out the center of the card front. We will not be using the DSP oval for this card. We will be using the Gorgeous Grape CS stitched oval.

Use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold at the 4 1/4 inch score line on the Gorgeous Grape CS card base. Open the card and adhere the Basic White CS sentiment card piece to the inside.

Assembling the Pop Up

Use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold at the 1, 2 nd 3 inch score lines on the 3 x 4 inch Gorgeous Grape CS. Fold in half with the open end on top.

Apply a strong adhesive to the upper 1/4, turn the card piece around and adhere to the center of the inside of the card. The open ends should be on top.

Apply a strip of adhesive to the upper edge of the folded 3 x 4 inch Gorgeous Grape CS and then close the card to adhere it.

When you open the card it should look like this. This is the pop-up box for your sheep.

Fold the 3/4 x 2 1/4 inch Gorgeous Grape CS card piece at the 1 1/4 inch score line. The lengths will be uneven. Apply adhesive to the top portion of the longer side.

Turn the card piece over and adhere it to the center of the Pop-up box.

Adhere the Basic White CS oval to the Gorgeous Grape CS stitched oval. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the sheep and the Easter basket to the oval.

Apply adhesive to the tab and press the stitched oval card piece into place. Hold until secure.

Viola! You have just created a cute pop-up Easter card!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you give this a try. The first time may be a little challenging, but then it is a breeze!

Sorry I missed a few days this week. I was more busy than I expected for the craft bazaar I did with my friends Amanda and Christy. And I was totally exhausted afterward! I just needed a few days to recover. Bazaars are a lot of work!

Easy Fun Fold Note Card with Butterfly Bouquet

Welcome to Fun Fold Friday! There is so much you can do with the Butterfly Bouquet! I apologize to those of you who are tiring of this set, however, I have a wonderful Fun Fold for you today!

This card features the Designer Series Paper (DSP) in the Butterfly Bouquet called Butterfly Bijou. What is a Bijou? I didn’t know so I looked it up. A Bijou is something that is delicate, elegant or highly prized (defined by Merriam-Webster). I think Bijou definitely describes this Suite. Well enough of that-let’s make the card!

Measurements: Butterfly Bijou DSP: small butterfly/pink splatter design: 2 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches, 2 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches and 4 x 5 1/4 inches, and one 6 x 6 inch piece of the large butterfly design; Calypso Coral Card Stock (CS) card base: 5 1/2 x 7 inches scored at 2 3/4 inches; Calypso Coral CS: 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches scored at 1/2 inches; and Basic White CS: 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches.

Dies

The Brilliant Wings Dies have a die that fits around all of the butterflies on the large butterfly design of the Butterfly Bijou DSP. If you do not have a die cutting machine, the butterflies can be fussy cut.

I will be using the Magenta Madness and the Calypso Coral colored butterflies.

Putting the card together

The first step is to adhere the 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch Calypso Coral CS to the 7 x 5 1/2 inch Calypso Coral CS so that it will fold toward the inside of the card base.

Next adhere the 4 x 5 1/2 inch Butterfly Bijou DSP with the pink splatter design side up to the inside of the 5 1/2 x 7 inch CS card base.

Continue by adhering the 2 1/2 x 5 1/4 inch Butterfly Bijou DSP to the card front. Then adhere the 2 3/4 x 3 1/4 inch Butterfly Bijou DSP, with the pink splatter side up, onto the front of the flap.

The card should end up looking like this.

To complete the inside of the card adhere the 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch Basic White CS to the inside of the card, minding the positioning so that the Basic White CS is hidden when the card is closed.

Adding the Butterflies

To add some dimension to the butterflies, you can use your Bone Folder to gently curl the wings.

Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the butterflies to the flap on the card front. I also added some Bling! by placing a few of the Elegant Faceted Gems around wherever I wished.

Viola! You have made a wonderful Fun Fold note card!

Thanks so much for coming by today! I hope you enjoyed this easy Fun Fold and will give it a try.

Stampin’ Up!® Woodland Wonder Fun Fold for Friday

Welcome to the Stampin’ Up!® Woodland Wonder Fun Fold for Friday! This is an adorable and fun card to wish Happy Birthday to someone young at heart. The Stampin’ Up!® Woodland Wonder stamp set is found in the 2021 January to June Mini Catalog on page 53. You can buy one for yourself right HERE.

This cute Fun Fold opens up to reveal a tall tree with a family of animals ready to say “Hip-Hip-Hoo-Ray!”

Measurements

Measurements: One piece of 4 1/4 x 11 inch Basic White Card Stock (CS) with score lines at 2, 3 3/4, 7 1/4 and 9 inches.

Folding the Fun Fold

Fold the Basic White CS card base as shown.

Stamping

The first step is to stamp the bottom of the tree in Memento ink so that the top of the stamp abuts the 9 inch score line and is in the center.

Fold the card closed and use a pencil to mark where the borders of the tree trunk are. This is to help guide you where to stamp the top of the tree so that when the Fun Fold is closed the tree trunks are aligned.

The next step is to fold the card part way and make a pencil mark at the border of the tree trunk. Use these pencil marks when you stamp the large image of the tree trunk with all the animals to help keep the trunk aligned. There will be some space between the top of the trunk with the animals and the tree top trunk.

Masking

Masking. To be able to fill in the tree trunk you will need a sticky note to cover the grass on the tree trunk bottom. Use the Memento ink upside down to ink up the trunk. Then remove the sticky note before you stamp.

More Stamping

You will need to stamp the masked bottom trunk twice to fill in the space.

Use your Stampin’ Write Marker in Basic Black to fill in the spaces between the stamped trunks. Mine is a tad bit off, but little “errors” like that is what makes this card a homemade card!

Continue to use the Memento ink to stamp the pole as if the squirrel were holding it. Add the “HIP-HIP-HOO-RAY!” banner.

To finish up, stamp the sentiments “happy birthday” and “from all of us” onto the bottom of the card.

Let the Memento ink dry well. Use your bone folder to make the folds nice a crisp. This is what the front should look like when the card is closed.

Coloring

I used the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers to color the tree and animals. The colors I used were: Granny Apply Green, Cinnamon Cider, Crumb Cake, So Saffron, Mango Melody, Gray Granite, Flirty Flamingo, Balmy Blue, Real Red, Smoky Slate and Daffodil Delight.

This is what it looks like on the front after coloring.

In order to keep the card closed until that special someone opens it, I used a 16-inch piece of the Bumblebee In Color Ribbon. The ribbon is adhered to the back of the card with a glue dot.

Viola! Now you have an adorable Fun Fold to wish someone a very Happy Birthday!

Confession: I had to stamp this card several times before getting it right. Several times I dropped the stamp on the card and once I forgot to remove the stick-not mask before stamping. Point is-don’t give up, keep trying and you will have a really cool card!

Thank you very much for viewing my blog today!

Fun Fold Friday with Butterfly Brilliance by Stampin’ Up!®

Welcome to Theresa’s Treasures today for Fun Fold Friday. Today’s card is made using the Butterfly Brilliance by Stampin’ Up!® as well as the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper (DSP). The Butterfly Brilliance stamp set is part of the Butterfly Bouquet Suite that will be available for purchase on March 2, 2021. Or if you want yours now, consider joining my Theresa’s Gems Team. More information on the Butterfly Bouquet Suite and how to join at the end of the instructions.

The Fun Fold is the centerpiece for this lovely card. It is super simple!

Measurements

Measurements: Basic White Card Stock (CS) card base: 4 1/4 x 11 inches with a score line at 5 1/2 inches; Bumblebee CS: 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inches and 4 x 5 1/2 inches; Basic White CS: 3 3/4 x 5 inches; and Flowers for Every Season DSP: 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches.

Stamping

First we will start by stamping the sentiment “Thinking of You” from the Happy Thoughts stamp set in Memento ink onto the 3 3/4 x 5 inch Basic White CS.

You will also be stamping the Butterfly Brilliance stamp in Memento ink onto a piece of Basic White CS and then coloring the smaller butterflies with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. The colors I used were: Daffodil Delight, So Saffron, Mango Melody and Pumpkin Pie.

Creating the Fun Fold

You will need your Stampin’ Up! Paper Trimmer for this step. First make a pencil mark at 2 1/8 inches on each side of the 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch Flowers for Every Season DSP.

The next step is to line up the pencil marks so that you can make a score line between them. Rotate until you have score lines on each corner.

The Flowers for Every Season card piece should look like this after you have made all the score lines. Erase the pencil marks.

Next you line up the score line at 3/4 inches and make another score line. Rotate until you have made a second score line all the way around. The end result is pictured on the right.

Now use your Bone Folder to make a crisp fold along all of the outer score lines.

In a similar fashion, fold the inner score lines outward and use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold. Next, adhere the Fun Fold card piece to the 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch Bumblebee CS.

Putting It All Together

Begin to assemble the parts by adhering the Fun Fold card piece to the sentiment card piece. Then adhere that to the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Bumblebee CS.

To complete the card front, use your Bone Folder to make a crisp fold at the 5 1/2 inch score line on the 4 1/4 x 11 inch Basic White CS card base. Next adhere the completed card piece to the front of the Basic White CS card base.

Finishing Up

In order to give the butterflies a little more dimension, I used my Bone Folder to gently curve the wings of each butterfly.

Add the butterflies to the card front with a Stampin’ Dimensional in the center behind the body of the butterfly.

I wanted my Fun Fold to lie a bit more flat so I added a Mini Glue Dot under the first fold. Tip: It is very easy to move the Mini Glue Dot with the Take Your Pick tool.

Viola! You have made a lovely Fun Fold to let someone know you are thinking of them. I really enjoy making cards. And I enjoy it even more when I mail the card out to someone. Additionally, I enjoy the positive feedback I get from the recipient. Mailing cards is a really great way to spread some joy!

Thank you for coming by today for Fun Fold Friday. I hope you will spend some time making your own card and spreading some joy yourself. We could all use a little more joy!

Hey Birthday Chick Fun Fold for Friday!

Hello! Stampin’ Up!® will release Hey Birthday Chick on February 2, 2021! This set is so adorable and fun to use to create cards made to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

The Fun Fold for today is wonderful to help showcase the images and sentiments in the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set! Don’t worry. It really isn’t as complicated as it looks, especially if you try it more than once.

Measurements

Measurements: Basic White Card Stock (CS) card bases: 4 x 9 inches with a score line at 3 1/2 inches, and 3 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 4 1/4 inches; Mango Melody CS: 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches, and 3 1/4 x 3 3/4 inches; Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper (DSP): 3 1/2 x 5 inches, 2 3/4 x 4 inches, and 3 x 3 1/2 inches; and Basic White CS: 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches, and 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches. You will also need about 16-18 inches of the Daffodil Delight 1/4 inch Ruched Ribbon (not pictured).

Stamping

Start out by stamping the cupcake chick onto the 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 inch Basic White CS in Memento Black ink. Next stamp the “Happy Birthday” sentiment under the chicken.

Stamp the sentiment “let’s celebrate you” onto the middle of the 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inch Basic White CS. Stamp the confetti around the sentiment, first with Bumblebee ink, then with Magenta Madness ink.

Tip-Halos

Tip: When I stamped the confetti in the Bumblebee ink, I got a “halo“. Sometimes the red rubber stamps need a little trimming to avoid having the halos in the future. Some folks trim theirs with an Exacto knife. I just use my sharp Paper Snips to trim the excess red rubber off.

Now it’s time to color in this image. I like the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. If you haven’t tried them yet, I highly recommend that you do. It is very easy to make color gradients and shadows with the Blends. The cupcake wrapper is colored in Light and Dark Magenta Madness. The chicken’s feet are Daffodil Delight. I colored the Buttercup Comb on the chicken’s head in Light Calypso Coral.

To complete the coloring of the comb, first I used the Dark Calypso Coral to shadow some strands. Then I colored with the Light Calypso Coral and blended the two shades together for the final result.

Switch to the 3 x 8 1/2 inch Basic White CS with the score line at 4 1/4 inches. This is a small secondary card base. Using the Memento Black ink stamp the little chick in the middle to the left of center. Follow up by stamping the sentiment “you’re still a spring chicken” to the right of the chick. I again used the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers to color the chick. (I forgot to color the little chick until I had finished the card.) The birthday hat is colored in Magenta Madness. The chick is colored in Daffodil Delight and his beak and legs in Light Calypso Coral.

To finish up here, use the Everyday Label Punch to punch out the “let’s celebrate you” sentiment. Now you have all the stamping done!

Putting It All Together

To begin putting this Fun Fold together, we will start with the baby chick card base. Use your Bone Folder to make a nice crisp fold at the 4 1/4 inch score line. Then adhere the 2 3/4 x 4 inch piece of Artistry Blooms DSP to the front.

Now we will work on the larger 4 x 9 inch Basic White CS card base. Start by preparing the pieces. Adhere the 3 x 3 1/2 inch Artistry Blooms DSP to the 3 1/4 x 3 3/4 inch Mango Melody CS. Now adhere the 3 1/2 x 5 inch Artistry Blooms DSP to the 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inch Mange Melody CS.

Lay the larger card base open on the table with the larger section on top. Adhere the 3 3/4 x 5 inch piece of Mango Melody CS with the Artistry Blooms DSP onto this larger portion.

To put together the front of this card base, use your Bone Folder to make a crisp fold at the 3 1/2 inch score line and fold the bottom up. Now you can adhere the 3 1/4 x 3 3/4 inch Mango Melody/Artistry Blooms DSP piece to the front of the bottom section.

This is the tricky part. You will need to adhere the smaller Basic White CS card base to the inside of the larger Basic White CS card base so that when the card is closed up, it is centered.

Finishing Up

In order to get the Happy Birthday chicken piece in the right spot you will need to place it on the front flap of the larger card base so that it is hidden when the smaller card base is closed. Adhere in place.

T

To make the finishing touches, use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the “let’s celebrate you” sentiment piece, then wrap the ribbon around the front of the smaller card base and tie a bow.

Three Bow Tying Tips

There are a few tips I use to tie a bow. The first tip is to do it upside down. The second tip is to use a pair of self closing tweezers to hold the knot while you finish tying the bow.

The third tip is to use a Mini Glue dot under the center knot of the bow to hold it in place. If the tails are not in the proper place, you can also use a Mini Glue Dot to hold the tails in place.

Viola!

Viola! Hopefully you made it through the instructions with a nice card. If you did not, don’t give up. Try it again. Often when I am creating and designing a Fun Fold, I have to do it more than once.

Thanks for hanging in there and reading my blog today. I hope you will find this a great Fun Fold to use to design your own cards.

Just A Note

There has been a change in the white cardstock that Stampin’ Up! is selling. The Whisper White CS is no longer available. Now there is Basic White CS, envelopes, notecards, etc. Below is the flyer with the new item numbers you will need to use to order. I have some on the way, but I have heard there is not much difference.
