Making a 3-D Magnolia Card

Sorry for the long absence. So much for having extra time to blog now that school started. I am finding that even though I only have 1 kiddo left out of 4, he really keeps me busy! I am just going to have to sit down and schedule time to blog and make cards! Stamping and making cards is what helps keep me relaxed.

I absolutely love making cards! Especially if I can make it better by changing it a little bit. I initially made this card flat but I felt it wasn’t quite what I wanted. By making the flower 3-D, the card really comes to life!

The Stampin’ Up! stamp set I am using is Good Morning Magnolia. The Designer Series Paper (DSP) is Magnolia Lane.

Measurements: Very Vanilla cardstock 11 x 4 1/4 inches scored at 5 1/2 inches, another 11 x 4 1/4 inch piece for stamping the Magnolia, and a 2 1/4 x 1 inch strip for the sentiment. Magnolia Lane DSP 5 1/4 x 4 inches and 5 x 3 3/4 inches. The DSP is the same design but I just used each of the two sides.

These are the two stamps we will use. Additionally, you will need the following: Memento ink, Stampin’ Up! clear acrylic blocks C and F, Stampin’ Blends in Old Olive, Petal Pink, Daffodil Delight and Soft Suede, Magnolia Memory Dies, Magnolia Lane Ribbon Pack, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Dimensionals, glue dots and paper snips.

Well, let’s get started! Fold the scored 11 x 4 1/4 inch Very Vanilla in half. This will be the card base. Set aside. The other 11 x 4 1/4 inch piece will be stamped with the magnolia flower- three times.

Tip: When using a large stamp, I find I get more even coverage with the ink if I ink it stamp-side up.

Using Memento ink, stamp the first of three magnolia images close to the edge.

OOPS! I dropped the stamp right on top of my work! Well, not to fear. This time the ink is not really going to get in the way because I will only need one full flower. The other flowers will be cut up.

I just use a Baby Wipe to clean everything up and then keep going!

Stamp the other two magnolias as close together as you can. I rotated the stamp to make it fit. For the last image on the right, I only need the very center of the flower so it doesn’t matter that it is over the edge.

Stamp the “Thanks” sentiment in Memento ink onto the 1 inch strip of Very Vanilla and set aside.

I am by no means a talented artist when it comes to coloring. I am going to show you what I did. If you have your own way of coloring, please proceed using your own technique.

I used the Dark Petal Pink and the smaller end to put shadows where I thought they should go,

I then used the brush tip of the Light Petal Pink to blend out the edges of the Dark Petal Pink. I did not color the whole flower out to the edge. I left some without color because I wanted the Very Vanilla cardstock to show through.

Here is my finished flower. Color one of the flowers completely, the middle of the second flower and leave the third flower uncolored.

Don’t forget to use the Daffodil Delight to color the center of the partially colored flower.

I actually made a mistake when I was photographing the making of this card. For the flower that you are coloring the leaves on, the flower itself will be complete covered by the layer so it doesn’t need to be colored.

I used the small tip of the Dark Old Olive to color where I thought the shadow should be.

I used the brush tip of the Light Old Olive to blend the color out to the edge of each leaf.

I used the Light and Dark Soft Suede to color the stem of the one with the colored leaves.

You could use the Magnolia Memory Dies to cut the Magnolia on the Big Shot if you have one. I forgot I had the dies and fussy cut the larger image.

Next I fussy cut the completely colored flower without any leaves.

And finally I cut the partially colored flower. Now we have all the layers.

Use the Multipurpose Liquid Glue (or any other adhesive) to adhere the larger of the DSP pieces to the front of the card base. Next adhere the smaller of the DSP pieces using the flip side.

I put Dimensionals on the 2 cut out magnolia flowers.

Adhere the “Thanks” sentiment, then the full magnolia with leaves flat on the card front. Adhere the completely colored magnolia flower without leaves, then the partially colored flower. The effect is just amazing and is very simple to do!

Make a bow from the Magnolia Lane Ribbon and adhere it to the card front with a glue dot. If you need help making a bow, see my blog about tying a bow which is from 02/2019: https://theresas-treasures.com/2019/02/15/making-a-bow/

Here is the finished card.

I loved this effect so much I made several cards using variations of the first card.

Okay, my goal is to blog once a week, hopefully every Tuesday. Thanks for hanging in there with me! See you next time!

Fancy Fold Bird Birthday Card

Hello everyone! Today I have a fun fancy fold card. You will be surprised to see how easy this awesome card is to make! It folds flat to fit in a standard A2 envelope. Currently I am visiting family for a wedding in Raleigh, North Carolina. I think this card could easily be changed to a wedding card if needed.

Measurements: 8 x 4 1 /4 inch Petal Pink card stock scored at 1 1/4, 2 1/2, 5 1/2 and 6 3/4 inches.

Additional paper needed: 4 x 2 3/4 inch of Basic Black; 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch of Very Vanilla; two 4 x 1 inch pieces of the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper in the floral print and 5 1/2 x 1 1/4 inch piece in the polka dot print; 5 1/2 x 1 1/4 inch of Petal Pink.

You will also need Memento ink, Stampin’ Up! Petal Pink ink and Stampin’ Up! Soft Sea Foam.

I used the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in : Light Petal Pink, Light and Dark Seaside Spray, Light Crumb Cake, Light Daffodil Delight and Light Granny Apple Green.

Here’s how to make this wonderful card. First fold the card base as shown above.

The following images are from Stampin’ Up!’s Free As A Bird stamp set. Using the Stamp Off Technique, stamp the leaves with the Sea Foam ink onto the 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch piece of Very Vanilla. This means you will first stamp onto a scrap of paper, then onto the card piece. This gives a faded image which is good since we will be stamping a sentiment over it.

Use the Stamp Off Technique again in the Petal Pink ink to stamp the flowers around the leaves.

Use the Memento ink to stamp the sentiment over the leaves and flowers. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from Stampin’ Up!s Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. Set this aside.

Stamp the single bird in Memento ink onto the inch piece of Very Vanilla. Gather your alcohol markers.

Use the Light Daffodil Delight to color the beak and feet. Then use the Light Petal Pink to color the birds breast.

Using gentle brush strokes and the Light Balmy Blue, color the birds feathers. Apply the Light Crumb Cake around the body of the bird.

Use the Light and Dark Petal Pink to blend the Crumb Cake around the breast. Use the Light and Dark Balmy Blue to blend in the Crumb Cake in the feathers of the body.

Light Granny Apple Green was used for the grass.

Now get your Paper Snips to “fussy cut” the bird. This just means we are cutting the image out freehand. I leave a little border, but others will cut right on the line. Choose what looks best to you.

I like to use the Tombow Multipurpose Liquid glue, but you can also use any double sided stick tape. Apply the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper floral print to the ends of the card base.

Adhere the sentiment piece to the Basic Black. Adhere the completed piece to the center of the card base.

Adhere the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper polka dot print to the Petal Pink rectangle.

To adhere the polka dot piece to the card front, fold the left side down. Apply adhesive to the bottom end of both sided on the floral print, lay down the polka dot piece and hold in place with everything flat until the adhesive is stuck down.

Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the single bird and adhere it to the card front on the left hand side.

Use the Mini Glue Dots to adhere a bow made from the 3/8 inch Scalloped Lace Trim to the card front near the single bird. If you need help making a bow, see my blog about tying a bow which is from 02/2019: https://theresas-treasures.com/2019/02/15/making-a-bow/

Adhere one of the Flower Faceted Gems to the card front next to the bird.

And believe it or not that is all there is to this card!
