Fun Fold Friday Flight of the Butterflies

I love butterflies so I try to use the Stampin’ Up! stamp sets with butterflies as frequently as I can. This fun fold card was inspired by one I made with my stamping friend Karen many years ago. This is special but also very quick to make. The flight of the butterflies is stamped with butterflies in the stamp set Beauty Abounds, which is in the 2020-21 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog.

Measurements: Bumble Bee Card Stock (CS): 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 3 inches on the long side, 3 x 8 inches with a score line at 4 inches on the long side, and a 1 1/4 x 4 inch strip; Flowers For Every Season 6 x 6 inch Designer Series Paper (DSP): front: 2 3/4 x 4 inches and background: 4 x 5 1/4 inches; Whisper White CS: two 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches and a scrap to stamp an extra butterfly on.

Use the Memento black ink to stamp the side view of the butterfly in each corner, then a little off center. Fill in the space with the forward facing butterfly.

Stamp a side facing butterfly onto a scrap of Whisper White CS and fussy cut. Lay it on one of the 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 inch Whisper White CS. Use the Memento ink to stamp the sentiment “thanks” in the center.

Color the butterflies. I used the Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers in Pumpkin Pie and Mango Melody.

Stamp the small flower from Arrange A Wreath onto the Bumble Bee CS and punch it out with the Small Bloom punch. Tip: Before you stamp, check the punch for the orientation of the image. Note that the flower has a star like orientation. Stamp so that the image easily fits the punch.

Use the Bone Folder on the 3 x 8 inch Bumble Bee CS to make a crisp fold at the 4 inch score line. Adhere the butterflies to the “wrong” side. This part of the card will be backward.

Adhere the Whisper White CS card piece with the sentiment to the left side of the inside.

Now working on the 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 inch Bumble Bee CS, use the Bone Folder to fold at the 3 inch score line. Adhere the 4 x 5 1/4 inch piece of Flowers For Every Season DSP to the inside of the card, and the 2 3/4 x 4 inch piece to the front of the card.

Adhere the butterfly card piece to the inside of the Bumble Bee CS card base, centering it.

Close the card and position the small bloom so that it will hold the card closed. Use a Stampin’ Dimensional to adhere the small bloom.

Viola! See how super quick that was! I love the challenge of the more difficult fun folds, but having one that is fun, easy and quick is great!

Butterflies in Winter

One of the scenes I love in Spring is of the butterflies and flowers. So, even though it is still winter I can bring this scene to life on a card. For this card I used Stampin’ Up! Beauty Abounds and the ‘You’re so Awesome’ sentiment from Flowering Desert. The colors are Shaded Spruce and Pineapple Punch. The card base is in Whisper White cardstock.

I started out with this stamp from Beauty Abounds, and the Shaded Spruce ink.

Apply the ink by tapping on the ink pad, straight up and straight down, until you have ink evenly on the raised part of the stamp. If you have ink on the red rubber around the stamp, or on your block, try tapping more lightly.

Press the stamp straight down on your cardstock and apply moderate but even pressure for about 5 seconds. Take care not to rock the block. Lift the stamp straight up. Following this procedure each time will allow you to get a nice clean image.

Add a few butterflies in Pineapple Punch ink.

Stamp the sentiment from Flowering Cactus in Shaded Spruce onto a strip of Whisper White cardstock measuring 3/4 inch by 4 inches.

The trick to getting a nice banner edge, is to start by cutting straight in at the middle.

Next, cut from one corner to the middle.

Then from the opposite corner to the middle.

Viola!

Now, adhere the Whisper White with the sentiment onto a strip of Pineapple Punch measuring 1 inch by 4 1/2 inches. Then cut the banner edge as shown.

I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to apply the sentiment to the card. These are a piece of foam with adhesive on both sides.

I applied the Dimensionals as shown. This will lift the sentiment up from the card a bit and add, well, add dimension to your card.

The Whisper White card base measures 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches and is folded in half. I trimmed the butterfly and flower piece to 2 1/2 x 3 5/8 inches and adhered it to a piece of Pineapple Punch measuring 2 5/8 x 3 3/4 inches. The first layer is Shaded Spruce at 5 1/4 x 4 inches. I added sequins to put some sparkle on the card.
