Friday Fun-fold: Playful Pampered Pets sending loving thoughts

This funtastic Pampered Pets stamp set is perfect for the dog or cat lover! This card is for my daughter who has both a dog and three cats.

This is a very common and easy fun-fold with a slight variation to make it more interesting. I turned the Real Red Card Stock (CS) that goes behind the stamped puppy card piece to make it diamond-shaped.

Measurements: Real Red CS card base is 4 1/4 x 11 inches with score lines at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2 inches; Real Red CS: 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches; Whisper White CS: 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches and 4 x 5 1/4 inches; Playful Pets Designer Series Paper (DSP): 2 1/2 x 4 inches.

With Memento Black ink stamp the puppy onto the 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inch Whisper White CS. Tip: We will be coloring with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers and the Memento ink will not bleed.

Stamp the sentiment “I hope your day is a real treat” in Memento ink onto the lower right hand corner of the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Whisper White CS. Add the little pet food bowl and then the hearts.

The Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Marker colors are: Light Basic Black and Light and Dark: Smoky Slate, Flirty Flamingo and Real Red. I also used the Real Red Stampin’ Write marker that is part of the Regals Assortment for the collar and dog’s mouth.

First color with the Stampin’ Blends Light Basic Black to accentuate the edges and shadows. Add the Dark Smoky Slate and blend it into the Light Basic Black.

Blend in the Light Smoky Slate. Tip: When blending the light color into the darker colors, use a small circular motion. I added a little Light Flirty Flamingo to the belly, ear and nose.

Color the mouth and collar with the Stampin’ Write Real Red Marker. The tip is finer so it is easier to put the ink just where you want it. Add a little Basic Black ink to the nose.

Color in the hearts with the Light Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend and add a slight shadow on the right hand side of each heart with the Dark Flirty Flamingo. The pet food bowl is colored with the Light Real Red Stampin’ Blend on one half, and the Dark Real Red on the other half.

Take the Real Red CS card base and use your Bone Folder to make a Z-fold as shown.

Adhere the 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inch Playful Pets DSP to the front panel of the Z-fold. Adhere the sentiment card piece to the inside.

Apply adhesive to half of the 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inch Real Red “diamond-shape” and apply to the front panel over the Playful Pets DSP. Be mindful of the placement so that the sentiment shows completely when the card is closed.

Apply adhesive to the colored puppy card piece and adhere it to the Real Red diamond-shaped card piece. Be mindful of the lower right corner so that it does not cover the sentiment.

Viola! This card is a playful fun-fold that was pretty quick to make! I hope my daughter gets hers in the mail before this blog posts!

Fun Fold Friday Box Pop Up Card with Country Home and Jar of Flowers and Coloring Tips

First I just want to take a moment to remember and reflect on all of those affected by the horrific events on September 11, 2001.

For today I have a special fun fold for you. This is a little challenging, but I will give step by step instructions. Warning, there are a lot of photos to help show how I created this card.

The Country Home and Jar of Flowers stamp sets pair together nicely. I love the sunflowers because they remind me of the approaching Autumn with their golden yellow and brown colors. The pop-up box of flowers on the inside of the card is a nice surprise!

Measurements: Cajun Craze Card Stock (CS) card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 4 1/4 inches; Crumb Cake CS: 5 1/4 x 8 inches with a score line at 4 inches, 3 3/4 x 5 inches and 1 x 3 inches; Very Vanilla CS: 3 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches, 3 x 5 inches, 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches and two 1 x 1 1/2 inches.

I drew dark solid lines to indicate cutting and dashed lines for scoring. You do not need to draw the lines. First you are going to cut the 5 1/4 x 8 inch Crumb Cake CS that has the score line at 4 inches. Using your Paper Trimmer place the 5 1/2 inch side on top with the left edge at 1 inch. Cut from 2 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches. Move the left edge to 2 1/2 and make the same cut.

Turn the Crumb Cake CS until the 8 inch side is on top. With the left edge at 2 1/2 inches make a score line between the cuts from 1 inch to 2 1/2 inches. Move the left edge to 5 1/2 inches and make another score line like the first. Now you can fold the card piece so that a little box pops out.

Flip the Crumb Cake card piece and place it inside the Cajun Craze CS card base to get an idea of what it will look like.

Cut the 1 x 3 inch Crumb Cake CS in half at 1 1/2 inches. Make a scoreline at 1 inch lengthwise. Trim the corners as shown. These will be the flaps for the box top. Adhere the box flaps.

Close the card piece after you adhere the box tops to ensure it will lie flat. If not, trim the corners of the flaps a little more.

Now for the stamping! Use the Memento black ink to stamp the images that will be colored with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. Tip: The Memento does not bleed as much as the regular ink when colored with the alcohol marker. Stamp the milk can from the Country Home stamp set onto the bottom of the 3 1/2 x 4 3/4 inch Very Vanilla CS. Stamp the bunch of sunflowers from the Jar of Flowers stamp set above the milk can, and onto the 3 x 5 inch Very Vanilla CS. Tip: To get the best stamped image with the Photopolymer stamp, you can use the Stampin’ Pierce mat or a catalog underneath. I simply forgot to use one this time.

Use Early Espresso ink to stamp the sentiment “Happy Harvest Blessings” onto the 3/4 x 4 inch strip of Very Vanilla CS. Next stamp the sentiment “You are the happy to my day” onto the Crumb Cake insert to the right hand side of the box.

I included a lot of photos to show you how I go about coloring with the Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers. This is just one way to go. Feel free to color how you would like. For the sunflowers I used the light and dark version of the following colors: Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Just Jade, Shaded Spruce, Calypso Coral and Cinnamon Cider.

For the small flower, I first colored in with the Light Calypso Coral. Then I colored the Dark Calypso Coral around the edges followed by coloring with the Light Calypso Coral to blend the dark into the light.

For the sunflowers I found it easier to color in the Dark Daffodil Delight first, then add the Light Daffodil Delight.

I added some Light Mango Melody to accentuate the shadows on the petals behind the other petals. I realized I had forgotten the little buds on the right, so I colored them in with the Light and Dark Calypso Coral.

I colored the center of the sunflower with the Light Cinnamon Cider leaving a ring that was not colored in. Next I colored in the very center and added some shading with the Dark Cinnamon Cider. Lastly, I colored the ring with the Light Daffodil Delight.

To color the leaves I started with the Light Just Jade, then added in some shading with the Dark Just Jade, followed by more Light Just Jade to blend the dark in. Lastly, I colored the small leaf fronds with the Dark Shaded Spruce at the base of the leaf, then the Light Shaded Spruce to finish.

The milk can is colored with the Light and Dark versions of Smoky Slate and Gray Granite.

I started with the Dark Smoky Slate and shaded in the borders of the milk can. My goal was to make it appear more rounded. I colored the right side a little more heavily than the left. Next I blended in the Light Smoky Slate followed by the Light Gray Granite. Tip: For better results I have found it easier to use the fine tip first when trying to make the colors gradated .

I added a single coat of the Light Gray Granite with the brush tip to blend everything together. I colored more shading with the Dark Smoky Slate to enhance the darker edges. You may set this aside until later.

I repeated the coloring process for the other two sunflower stamped images.

To prepare the sunflowers to be adhered to the inside of the box, I first cut off the smaller buds and fern frond one image. Next I fussy cut both images. To make them easier to adhere, I added a little tab by adhering the Very Vanilla CS 1 x 1 1/2 inch strips to the back of the sunflowers.

I placed the sunflowers in the box, being mindful to keep the edges in the middle from crossing over the 4 inch score line on the Crumb Cake CS. Next I used the Scoring Tool to score the sunflowers in line with the outer edge of the box. I folded the sunflowers along the score line.

I adhered the Very Vanilla CS tab on the back of the sunflowers to the back of the Crumb Cake CS box, being sure to keep the folded edge in line with the outer edge of the box. Before the glue dried, I closed the Crumb Cake CS to be sure everything was lined up and the card would be able to close. I opened the Crumb Cake CS and applied glue to the folded portion of the sunflowers, then closed the Crumb Cake CS card piece again to smooth it out.

Things are going to get a little easier soon. To adhere the Crumb Cake CS card piece to the Cajun Craze CS card base, first lay the piece in the card and apply adhesive to one side. Close the card and rub firmly.

Open the card and apply adhesive to the other side. Close and rub firmly.

Yay! What an awesome pop-up card!

Adhere the milk can piece to the 3 3/4 x 5 inch Crumb Cake CS, then adhere that to the front of the Cajun Craze CS card base. Be sure to adhere it to the correct side! Ask me why I know this!

Add the sentiment “Happy harvest Blessings” with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Viola! You made it through! I know that was long. The card is really awesome though. I hope you take a chance and give it a try.

Thanks so much for patiently viewing my blog today. Every once in awhile I need a challenge.

Fun Fold Friday with Winter Woods

I love fun folds, so much so that I signed up for a Fun Fold Swap at the last Stampin’ Up! Convention. There were 12 people in the group, so I went home with 11 new Fun Folds! This card is inspired by one from a stamper who hailed from the Netherlands. One thing I am missing this year is meeting new people from around the world at the Stampin’ Up! Onstage Convention. We are having one, but it is virtual so it will be me, myself and I attending!

This Fun Fold highlights the double-sided Regals Assortment of 6 x 6 inch Designer Series Paper (DSP), in this case- Shaded Spruce. And this will give you another Christmas Card to have ready this year!

Measurements: Whisper White Card Stock (CS): 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 4 1/4 inches (this is your card base), 4 x 5 1/4 inches and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches; Shaded Spruce CS: 3 3/4 x 5 inches and 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches; one sheet of the Regals 6 x 6 inch DSP in Shaded Spruce; Forever Gold Laser Cut Specialty Paper: 2 bunches of leaves.

The first step in a Fun Fold card is to cut the paper. Place the Regals Shaded Spruce 6 x 6 inch DSP on your paper trimmer to cut at 5 inches. Rotate the paper and cut at 3 3/4 inches. Tip: I could never remember which of the blades was for cutting and which was for scoring. I made 12 pt labels and stuck them on the proper blades.

With the 5 inch side on top, cut down 1 1/2 inches at the 2 1/2 inch mark.

Mark the inside end of the 1 1/2 inch cut with a black marker. This will not show once the card is put together.

Gently score between the corner and the black dot on each side. Tip: Keep your pressure light so you do not accidentally tear the DSP with the Scoring Blade.

Use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold on the score lines as shown.

Now for some stamping!

Use Shaded Spruce ink to stamp the sentiment ” Thinking of you this SEASON” onto the 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch Whisper White CS. Stamp in the middle and a little toward the left side so you can punch it out. Stamping Off Technique: Stamp the evergreen tree onto your scrap paper and then stamp onto the edge of the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Whisper White CS.

Punch the sentiment out with the Label Me Lovely Punch. Use the 2 1/4 inch Circle Punch to punch a circle from the 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch Shaded Spruce CS.

Adhere the 4 x 5 1/4 inch Whisper White CS with the evergreen tree stamped on it to the inside of the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch Whisper White CS card base.

Adhere the folded Shaded Spruce DSP to the 3 3/4 x 5 inch Shaded Spruce CS. Next adhere this card piece to the front of the Whisper White CS card base. Adhere the 2 1/4 inch Shaded Spruce circle to the center of the card front.

Use a small amount of Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the stems of the leaves and adhere them to the 2 1/4 inch Shaded Spruce circle.

Apply Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the sentiment and adhere it to the 2 1/4 inch Shaded Spruce circle.

Now for some Bling! The Gilded Gems are so gorgeous and shiny! The facets really make the gems sparkle!

I added 3 gems in decreasing size with the Take Your Pick tool.

Viola! You have a very easy but elegant Fun Fold winter holiday card! Add one more to your Christmas card stash!

Fun Fold Friday with Timeless Tropical

I love fun fold cards because they are a little bit of a challenge to figure out. Once I have them figured out, I make a lot of cards with that fold. I learned this fun fold from my stamping friend Karen.

The Timeless Tropical stamp set is great for this card with the big bright hibiscus and the smaller flower as a compliment. The Timeless Tropical stamp set is versatile because it has sentiments for birthday, thank you and hello. I have just celebrated a birthday, so I chose to make a birthday card.

Measurements: Mango Melody Card Stock (CS) card base: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches with a score line at 4 1/4 inches; Whisper White CS: 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches, 3 1/2 x 4 inches, 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches; Rainbow Glimmer Paper: 2 x 2 3/8 inches; Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper (DSP): two at 1 1/4 x 4 inches.

The first thing to do is to make the fun fold. Here is what it will look like when complete.

With the 5 1/2 inch side of the Mango Melody card base along the top, make a cut at 1 1/2 inches down to the 4 1/4 inch scoreline.

Just a little side note. This is the new Stampin’ Up! Paper Trimmer. I could not for the life of me remember which was the cutting blade and switch was the scoring blade. I used my label maker to make labels.

Slide the Mango Melody card base down to 4 inches and make another cut down to the 4 1/4 inch scoreline.

Turn the Mango Melody card base so that the 8 1/2 inch side is on top and the side with the cuts is on your left. Slide the card base down to 2 1/8 inches and make a score line on the middle section only, down to the next cut.

When complete, the score line will look like this.

Here is a birds eye view of the Mango Melody card base with the two cut lines and the score line.

Use your Bone Folder to make crisp folds at the score lines.

Here is what the card base will look like now. Let’s get stamping!

On the 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch Whisper White CS, stamp the hibiscus in Magenta Madness ink, the small flower in Mango Melody and the leaf in Granny Apple Green.

You may fussy cut the stamped images, or if you have a cutting machine the Timeless Tropical stamps coordinates with the Tropic Dies.

Stamp the sentiment “May Your Birthday Be Memorable” in the center of the 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 inch Whisper White CS. Use the Timeless Label punch to punch the sentiment out.

Adhere the 3 1/2 x 4 inch Whisper White CS to the center of the inside of the Mango Melody card base. Apply adhesive to the two side panels as shown.

Adhere the two side panels to the inside of the card base. Now adhere the two 1 1/4 x 4 inch Artistry Blooms DSP pieces to the side panels.

Adhere the Rainbow Glimmer Paper to the front of the middle panel.

Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the sentiment “May Your Birthday Be Memorable” to the bottom of the inside of the card. Stamp the sentiment “Rest and Relax You Deserve It” in Magenta Madness ink on the inside of the card above the other sentiment.

Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the two flowers and the leaf to the Rainbow Glimmer Paper. Be sure the edge of the flowers on the bottom does not go past the edge of the card stock underneath so you can fold the middle up and behind the birthday sentiment.

Viola! You have a very colorful, summery fun fold Birthday Card! However, if you like, you may add some Bling!

The Artistry Blooms self adhesive sequins come in a variety of colors including Mango Melody and Rich Razzleberry which complements the Magenta Madness nicely.

I added three of each color to the side panels. You could also add some to the flowers if you wish. The Take Your Pick tool really makes transferring the self adhesive sequins easy.

Viola! Now you have a colorful, summery fun fold Birthday card with Bling!

Thank you so much for your interest in my blog. Please leave a comment letting me know what you think.

Adventure Awaits with this Fun Fold Card

Happy Friday! Today I have a Fun Fold card for you using the World of Good Suite in the new 2020-2021 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. The stamp set is Beautiful World. This card can be a wonderful masculine card.

A great part of this card is that it highlights the World of Good Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP). This paper has travel patterns- some accented with brass foil!

The Adventure Awaits Fun fold card opens like the top of a cardboard box. All of the flaps end up being tucked in behind the 2 1/4 inch Brass Foil Circle.

Measurements: Misty Moonlight Card Stock (CS): 8 1/2 x 11 inches for the card base, and 4 x 2 1/4 inches: Very Vanilla CS: 5 1/4 x 4 inches and 4 x 2 inches; Brass Foil Sheet: 4 x 2 1/2 inches; and the World of Good Specialty DSP in 4 different designs: 2 5/8 x 1 7/8 inches each.

Use the Simply Scored scoring board to make the card base. Place the 8 1/2 x 11 inch Misty Moonlight CS with the 8 1/2 inch side on top. Use the Simply Scored Stylus to score at 2 1/8 and at 6 3/8 inches.

Turn the Misty Moonlight CS and score the 11 inch side at 2 3/4 and 8 1/4 inches.

Cut along the scorelines to cut off the four corner pieces.

Using the corner punch on the Detailed Trio Punch, round all of the corners.

Use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold on all the scorelines. Check to see that the opposite flaps meet in the middle. Now fold the four flaps as you would fold the top of a cardboard box.

Using a non-permanent adhesive, place the World of Good Specialty DSP pieces on the card as you would like them to be. Open the card and flip over. This will allow you to see which corner of the DSP needs to be rounded with the corner punch.

Use the Detailed Trio Punch to round the appropriate corners on the DSP. Adhere the DSP pieces to the card base with a permanent adhesive. Fold the card back up to be sure all looks well.

In Misty Moonlight ink, stamp the sentiment “Life’s a beautiful journey” followed by the sentiment “Congratulations on this new beginning” onto the 5 1/4 x 4 inch Very Vanilla CS. Stamp the ink bottle and the little squiggle. On the 4 x 2 1/4 inch Very Vanilla CS stamp the globe on one end allowing space around it so you can punch it out. Now stamp the sentiment “Adventure Awaits” on the other end.

The compass and feather are stamped in Cinnamon Cider ink.

Punch the globe out with the 1 3/4 inch Circle Punch. Fussy cut the “Adventure Awaits”. Note: I didn’t realize that the 1 3/4 inch Circle Punch is retired. I recommend fussy cutting the globe because the next size, the 1 1/2 inch Circle Punch, cuts off too much of the image.

Use the 2 1/4 inch Circle Punch to cut out a circle from the Brass Foil. Tip: When punching the foil, I get a better results if I punch it out with the punch on the table, and the foil side facing towards the table.

Use the 2 inch Circle Punch to punch a circle from the 4 x 2 1/4 inch Misty Moonlight CS. Adhere the Misty Moonlight circle to the Brass Foil circle, then adhere the globe to the Misty Moonlight circle.

Lay the globe piece slightly above and to the left of center- to make it easier to open the flaps than if it is in the center. Adhere the sentiment “Adventure Awaits” to the card front. Tip: I use tweezers when I want to position something small that cannot easily be held by hand, so that it is straight.

Use a pencil to mark the edge of the globe piece. Apply Stampin’ Dimensionals just to that flap.

Adhere the globe to the card front.

Open the card up and adhere the inside piece.

Viola! The Adventure Awaits Fun Fold Card is completed and ready to send to someone! The new adventure could be many different occasions including: a new job, starting college, traveling, marriage, or retirement. This also makes a great masculine card.

Thank you for coming by and viewing my blog. I appreciate you very much. Please leave a comment if you like the card and whether or not you like the Fun Fold Cards in general. Please let me know how I am doing.

Friday’s Fun Fold Card with Forever Fern

Hello and welcome to Friday! Yes, you made it through another week! On Fridays I will post a Technique or Fun Fold. Today’s card is a fun fold that is really very simple to make.

The Stampin’ Up! Forever Fern stamp set is new in the 2020-2021 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. There are many leaf images that make creating with the set very rewarding. There is even a little “splatter” stamp as you can see from the Pretty Peacock splatter on the inside of the card.

Measurements: Garden Green Card Stock (CS): 11 x 4 1/4 inches with a score line at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2 inches, and 4 x 3 1/2 inches; Whisper White CS: 5 1/4 x 4 inches and two 4 x 2 1/2 inches; Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper DSP) in two different designs: 4 x 2 1/2 inches and 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches. You will also need the Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon in a 5 inch and 9 inch length, and some gold leaves from the Forever Gold Laser-cut Specialty Paper.

Let’s start stamping! Use the Garden Green ink for the bunch of leaves from the Forever Fern stamp set to stamp onto the 4 x 2 1/2 inch Whisper White CS. Then use the Pretty Peacock ink to stamp the butterfly from the Positive Thoughts stamp set leaving space around the leaves and butterfly so they can be cut out.

Fussy cut the bunch of leaves and the butterfly, then set aside.

Using Garden Green ink, stamp the sentiment “Friends like you mean more every year” from the Positive Thoughts stamp set onto the 5 1/4 x 4 inch Whisper White in the center and slightly above the midline. Now stamp the large bunch of leaves in the upper right and left corners, not quite symmetrically.

Now stamp the medium leaf branch in Old Olive around the perimeter. Generally, 3 is a good number of one image (although I broke this rule with the large branch 😊).

The smaller branch of leaves is stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink (oops, I broke the rule of 3’s again!). I still like the way it looks, so I guess I can get away with it this time!

If you want, add some of the splatters with Pretty Peacock ink. Some are full strength, others are Stamped Off.

Fold the 11 x 4 1/4 inch Garden Green CS at the 5 1/2 inch score line and use the Bone Folder to get a crisp fold. Now fold at the 2 3/4 inch score line. Use the Bone Folder again.

Adhere the 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 inch Forever Greenery DSP to the 4 x 3 3/4 inch Garden Green CS. Use Glue Dots to adhere the 5 inch piece of Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon.

Use the Bone Folder to curve the wings of the butterfly.

Punch a circle with the 2 1/4 inch Circle Punch and adhere it to the card panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Adhere the Forever Gold Laser-cut Specialty Paper gold leaf branch to the punched out circle. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the Garden Green bunch of leaves and the Pretty Peacock butterfly. Use a Glue Dot to adhere the ribbon that is tied from the 9 inch piece of Polka Dot Tulle Ribbon. Set aside.

Adhere the 4 x 2 1/2 inch Forever Greenery DSP to the 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 inch section on the outside of the card base. Now adhere the 5 1/4 x 4 inch panel to the inside of the card.

This is the card so far. Lay the panel with the gold leaf and butterfly in place.

Make a light pencil mark on the butterfly panel to help you know where to put the Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Adhere the butterfly panel to the card front.

Now for the Bling! Today I am using the Gold Metallic Pearls. The Take Your Pick tool is the easiest way to transfer these tiny pearls from the sheet to your card.

And Viola! you have a really pretty fun fold to send to a good friend!

Garden Birthday with Layered with Kindness

As you may have noticed from my last Blog post, I have been learning to participate in a Blog Hop. I think I finally have it working if you would like to check it out. After you scroll through my portion there will be a list of names. Click on the name and visit their Blog. You can get a lot of great ideas from a Blog Hop.

Today’s card is a Birthday card. I have 6 people in my family with Birthdays in May! I need to stock up on Birthday cards. This card can be made with any Designer Series Paper (DSP). I am using Garden Lane DSP from the 2019-2020 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog.

I made this card with the Layered With Kindness stamp set by Stampin’ Up!® and the coordinating punch.

Measurements: Garden Green Card stock (CS): 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches, 8 1/2 x 3 inches and 5 x 3 inches; Garden Lane DSP: 5 1/4 x 4 inches and 4 x 3 inches; and Whisper White CS: 4 x 3 inches and 5 x 3 inches.

The first step is to stamp the “Happy Birthday” sentiment in Memento onto the 5 x 3 inch Whisper White CS. Set aside.

Stamp the leaves in Garden Green ink onto the right hand side of the 4 x 3 inch Whisper White CS.

Now stamp the little flower in Petal Pink ink.

Stamp several flowers.

Stamp the single leaf several times in Garden Green ink.

Adhere the 5 1/4 x 4 inch Garden Lane DSP to the 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch Garden Green CS.

Fold the 8 1/2 x 3 inch Garden Green in half at 4 1/4 inches and use the Bone Folder to make the fold nice and crisp.

Adhere the 4 x 3 inch Garden Lane DSP to the front of the folded Garden Green CS.

The floral card piece will go inside the folded Garden Green CS piece.

Adhere the floral card piece.

Adhere the back of the Garden Green folded card piece to the front of the Garden Lane DSP on the 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 inch piece of Garden Green CS.

Use the Label Me Lovely punch to cut out the “Happy Birthday” sentiment and then punch another label out of the 5 x 3 inch Garden Green CS.

Adhere the two labels together with the Garden Green label slightly to the right of the “Happy Birthday” label.

Adhere some Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the “Happy Birthday” label on the half behind the “H” and the “B”.

Adhere to the card front with the right edge hanging off a little.

Now for some Bling! I used the Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels and applied them with the Take Your Pick tool.

Slide the pick under the adhesive on the rhinestone and transfer it to where you want it on the card. Apply slight pressure to the rhinestone and slide the pick out from underneath. Tip: If you do not have a pick tool, try a toothpick.

Add as many rhinestones as you like, keeping with an odd number. An odd number is more pleasing to the eye.

And Viola! You have a really nice Birthday Card that folds in a new and fun way. (This type of card is called a Fun Fold or Fancy Fold).

Product List

I am so glad you joined me today. This is a great card to use any designed paper you may have around. You can easily substitute another sentiment, and if you do not have any punches, just make the sentiment a square. I am going to make a few more in different colors so I can get them mailed out to my family soon!

Fancy Fold Bird Birthday Card

Hello everyone! Today I have a fun fancy fold card. You will be surprised to see how easy this awesome card is to make! It folds flat to fit in a standard A2 envelope. Currently I am visiting family for a wedding in Raleigh, North Carolina. I think this card could easily be changed to a wedding card if needed.

Measurements: 8 x 4 1 /4 inch Petal Pink card stock scored at 1 1/4, 2 1/2, 5 1/2 and 6 3/4 inches.

Additional paper needed: 4 x 2 3/4 inch of Basic Black; 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inch of Very Vanilla; two 4 x 1 inch pieces of the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper in the floral print and 5 1/2 x 1 1/4 inch piece in the polka dot print; 5 1/2 x 1 1/4 inch of Petal Pink.

You will also need Memento ink, Stampin’ Up! Petal Pink ink and Stampin’ Up! Soft Sea Foam.

I used the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in : Light Petal Pink, Light and Dark Seaside Spray, Light Crumb Cake, Light Daffodil Delight and Light Granny Apple Green.

Here’s how to make this wonderful card. First fold the card base as shown above.

The following images are from Stampin’ Up!’s Free As A Bird stamp set. Using the Stamp Off Technique, stamp the leaves with the Sea Foam ink onto the 3 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch piece of Very Vanilla. This means you will first stamp onto a scrap of paper, then onto the card piece. This gives a faded image which is good since we will be stamping a sentiment over it.

Use the Stamp Off Technique again in the Petal Pink ink to stamp the flowers around the leaves.

Use the Memento ink to stamp the sentiment over the leaves and flowers. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment is from Stampin’ Up!s Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set. Set this aside.

Stamp the single bird in Memento ink onto the inch piece of Very Vanilla. Gather your alcohol markers.

Use the Light Daffodil Delight to color the beak and feet. Then use the Light Petal Pink to color the birds breast.

Using gentle brush strokes and the Light Balmy Blue, color the birds feathers. Apply the Light Crumb Cake around the body of the bird.

Use the Light and Dark Petal Pink to blend the Crumb Cake around the breast. Use the Light and Dark Balmy Blue to blend in the Crumb Cake in the feathers of the body.

Light Granny Apple Green was used for the grass.

Now get your Paper Snips to “fussy cut” the bird. This just means we are cutting the image out freehand. I leave a little border, but others will cut right on the line. Choose what looks best to you.

I like to use the Tombow Multipurpose Liquid glue, but you can also use any double sided stick tape. Apply the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper floral print to the ends of the card base.

Adhere the sentiment piece to the Basic Black. Adhere the completed piece to the center of the card base.

Adhere the Bird Ballad Designer Series paper polka dot print to the Petal Pink rectangle.

To adhere the polka dot piece to the card front, fold the left side down. Apply adhesive to the bottom end of both sided on the floral print, lay down the polka dot piece and hold in place with everything flat until the adhesive is stuck down.

Add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the single bird and adhere it to the card front on the left hand side.

Use the Mini Glue Dots to adhere a bow made from the 3/8 inch Scalloped Lace Trim to the card front near the single bird. If you need help making a bow, see my blog about tying a bow which is from 02/2019: https://theresas-treasures.com/2019/02/15/making-a-bow/

Adhere one of the Flower Faceted Gems to the card front next to the bird.

And believe it or not that is all there is to this card!

Promotion!! I am having a Summer promotion. For every $30 ordered at my store, you can earn 3 tickets. The prize will be: the Free as a Bird stamp set, Bird Ballad DSP, a roll of 3/8 inch Scalloped Lace Trim, Memento ink and the Flower Faceted Gems–valued at over $50! The drawing with be on September 14, 2019. Good luck!

Graduation Card and Gift Card Holder

This time of year is so exciting for many folks! Graduation from High School or University is such an accomplishment! What better way to help the person celebrate than sending a handmade card that holds a gift card!

The actual idea for the gift card holder came from my stamping friend Dawn. The image on the front of the card has been posted by several folks on Pinterest. The combination is my original idea.

This card is more involved than the cards I have been posting. There are a lot of supplies needed which I will show first. A complete list will also be at the end of the instructions. Let’s get started!

The card base is an 11 x 4 1/4 inch Basic Black scored at 1 3/4 and 5 1/2. Along the 4 inch side on the left end, make a small mark at 2 1/8 inches with the scoreboard.

The front of the card is a 4 x 3 1/2 inch piece in the school color (for this card I used Pacific Point), and a 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 inch Whisper White.

The inside of the card is Whisper White in 5 1/4 x 4 inches, 4 x 3 1/2 inches and 4 x 1 1/2 inches. Along the 4 inch side of the 4 x 1 1/2 inch piece, make a small mark in pencil at 2 inches.

For the graduation cap you need a 4 1/4 x 1 inch piece of Basic Black. The diploma is made from a 1 1/2 x 3/4 inch piece of copy paper.

This card uses 3 different Stampin’ Up! stamp sets: Beautiful You, Itty Bitty Greetings and Wood Words.

Ink: Memento and Stampin’ Up!’s Pacific Point (or the school color).

Stampin’ Write Markers: Basic Black and Pacific Point (or the school color). Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers: Dark Basic Black, Dark Granny Apple Green, Dark Daffodil Delight (or other hair color) and Light Petal Pink (or other skin color).

Stampin’ Up! punches: 1 inch circle, 1 1/4 inch circle (retiring) and Triple Banner.

Clear blocks: C and E.

You will also need embroidery thread in the school color and in black.

Most of the adhesive I used is the Multipurpose Liquid Glue. In order to ensure the gift card holder was secure I used Tear and Tape adhesive.

Alright! Now that you have the supplies, let’s see how to make the card! Warning- this is a long post but well worth it! There are several Tips along the way.

Lay the 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of Whisper White on the right side of the inside of the card. Fold at the score lines and burnish with the bone folder.

With the card folded closed, use the Basic Black Stampin’ Marker to draw a line. Set aside.

Use the Memento ink to stamp the lady onto the 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 inch piece of Whisper White. Tip: Be sure to leave room underneath the lady for the sentiment.

Using Memento ink stamp the sentiment “Congratulations” under the lady. Set aside.

Next we will stamp on the inside card pieces, the 4 x 1 1/2 inch and 5 1/4 x 4 inch pieces of Whisper White. We will only be stamping on the right side of the line drawn on the larger piece.

Starting with the 4 x 1 1/2 inch card piece, use the Stamping Off Technique with the school color ink (Pacific Point) to stamp the stars onto the card piece.

Stamp until the card piece is full of stars. Set aside.

For the 5 x 4 1/4 inch Whisper White card piece, use a copy paper mask. Tip: Do not use a cardstock for the mask because there will be a white space between the line and the stamped image if you do. You will see a little white space even with the copy paper (shown later).

Again use the Stamping Off Technique to stamp the stars on the right side of the black line only.

Tip: Take care not to push the stamp into the ink pad too far. The ink will get around the stamp and leave a halo on the card. Fortunately, this halo was very small so I did not do anything about it.

Continue Stamping Off and fill the right side with stars. Note the white space between the second and third stars and the black line. This can be minimized by pressing a little more firmly when stamping.

Tip: Mount the sentiment “Happy Graduation” about 1/4 inch from the top edge of the C block to aid in spacing the sentiment. Take extra care to go straight down and up when stamping without rocking.

Use the top edge of block clear block to line up with the top edge of the paper for the first stamped sentiment. Thereafter, line up the top edge of the block so it is underlining the sentiment you just stamped.

Repeat the process on the smaller strip of stars. Set the card pieces aside.

Using the Dark Black Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Marker, color in the lady’s dress to make the graduation gown. Leave the ruffles under the skirt uncolored.

Draw in the sleeves of the gown to complete it.

Color the hair. I used the Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend. Then color the ruffle and legging in the school color. I used Pacific Point.

I used the Light Petal Pink Stampin’ Blend for the skin color and the Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend for the grass.

In order to get the graduation cap right, I punched the 4 1/4 x 1 inch Basic Black piece with the Triple Banner Punch. I used the smaller piece.

I used the Paper Snips to cut parallel to the punched edges to create the diamond-shaped graduation cap.

Pierce a hole into the center of the cap using the Stampin’ Pierce Mat and the Paper-Piercing tool.

Using the black embroidery thread, tie a knot on one end. With the knot on the top side, thread it through the hole in the graduation cap. Secure the underside with scotch tape.

Trim the tassel and set aside.

You will need the 1 1/2 x 3/4 inch piece of copy paper, the Paper-Piercing Tool and the school colored embroidery thread for the diploma. Use the end of the Paper-Piercing Tool to start rolling the diploma.

Trim the excess copy paper once you like how the diploma looks. Tie the school-colored embroidery thread around the diploma and make a double knot. Trim the excess thread. Set aside.

Take the stamped 4 x 1 1/2 inch piece of Whisper White and place the 1 1/4 inch circle punch so that the small mark you made at 2 inches is in the middle. Use about 1/3 of the punch to create the thumb notch.

Take the Basic Black card base and place the 1 inch circle punch so that the mark you made at 2 1/8 inches is in the middle. Punch using about 1/3 of the circle punch to create the thumb notch.

Finally! We have all the pieces and we can start putting everything together! Start with the inside of the card. Adhere the 5 1/4 x 4 inch stamped Whisper White on the right-hand side and the 4 x 3 1/2 inch blank Whisper White in the middle.

Place the tear tape as close to the outside edge as you can. This allows enough space for the gift card to fit.

Flip the card base over. First adhere the lady to the 4 x 3 1/2 inch piece of the school color (here it is Pacific Point). Then adhere the combination to the front panel of the Basic Black card base.

Tip: Use the Paper-Piercing Tool to slide under the protective cover of the Tear Tape. This is an easy way to remove the covering. Close the panel toward the inside of the card. Press firmly to ensure the Tear Tape securely adheres. Place the gift card in the space.

I used a Stampin’ Dimensional on the graduation cap.

I used a generous amount of the Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the diploma. Note: Since there are raised portions on the front of the card, place an extra 5 1/4 x 4 inch piece of Whisper White cardstock over the front before mailing. This card can be mailed in the USA with a regular US postage stamp.

Congratulations! You have made it through – and you now have an extraordinary Graduation card and gift card holder to help that special someone celebrate their accomplishments! Butterfly Explosion Card

This is a really great card that I made for a special Fancy/Fun Fold Swap at Onstage in San Antonio. Several people have asked for the directions so I am going to do my best here.

Here is how the card “explodes”!

Start with an 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch piece of Designer Series Paper (DSP). This design is from the Animal Expedition pack.

With the design facing the way you want it, fold down the top to fold it in half.

Open it back up and then take the left hand corner and fold it across to make a triangle.

Open it up and do the same with the right hand corner.

Open it back up. Now fold the left handed middle fold line inward.

Fold the right handed fold line inward. Note that where the 2 fold lines meet, it is the middle of the triangle.

Take the top left hand bottom corner and fold it to the middle. Do the same with the right handed bottom corner.

Flip it over and do the same on the back side.

Open it up and fold the ends inward on the fold line.

Flip it over and fold the backside ends inward on the fold line.

Cut a 4 1/2 x 9 inch piece of coordinating cardstock and score at 4 1/2 inches. This cardstock is Call Me Clover. Apply adhesive to one side and lay it down in the card as shown. Be sure that the top point is on the fold line.

While holding the folded DSP closed, apply adhesive to the topside. Close the card over the top and press firmly.

Open it up and viola! You have an explosion card!

The Fancy/Fun fold swap was so much fun! I got 12 great ideas to use in my classes. I always try to do a fun fold in each class. I hope you enjoyed learning about this card. I really enjoyed making them and swapping them!
