Cardz4Guyz Challenge # 243 Use Dies as a Main Feature

Here is a little extra post for the avid stamper. It is for the Cardz4Guyz Challenge #243 to Use Dies as a Main Feature.

I am so looking forward to the day when we will be able to be outside and have family and friends over for a big barbecue! That thought is what inspired me to make this card.

I used a lot of different products for this scene. The Stampin’ Up!® products are listed below.

Do you see all the lovely yellow butterflies! And don’t forget a drink!

Thanks for stopping by to see my card for the Cardz4Guyz Challenge to Use Dies as a Main Feature! It is so fun to have a challenge to do!

This is Knot Good

The state of the world is “knot” good. All I can do at this point is keep being creative to stay positive and pray that all will be well soon.

This little Get Well card is made with the Back on Your Feet stamp set by Stampin’ Up!® It’s good to add a little humor when the situation is not the best. I do hope that all of you are safe and well, and that your families are well too.

Measurements: Whisper White cardstock (CS): 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches with a score at 4 1/4 inches, 5 1/4 x 4 inches and 4 x 2 1/2 inches; Crushed Curry CS: 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches and 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches; Soft Suede CS: 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches. You will also need a 9 x 1/4 inch strip of the Birthday Bonanza Designer Series paper (DSP) -not shown.

Stamp the giraffe and the sentiment “This is knot good” onto the 4 x 2 1/2 inch Whisper White CS with black Memento ink.

I used a stamp from the Gallery Grunge stamp set to make the background. Stamp the image in Soft Suede ink. Gallery Grunge is a great stamp set to have on hand as you can make many different backgrounds.

Color the giraffe with the Crushed Curry Stampin’ Write Marker. One of the wonderful benefits of Stampin’ Up! is that the paper, ink, markers, ribbon, etc all match!

Color the giraffe’s spots with the Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker. Use the Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker for the hooves.

Finish the giraffe with a little Petal Pink in the ears and Old Olive for the grass.

Use the Bone Folder to make a crisp fold on the 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch Whisper White CS at the 4 1/4 inch score to make the card base. Adhere the 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inch Crushed Curry CS to the front of the card base.

Adhere the Soft Suede piece to the Crushed Curry piece on the card front.

Adhere the giraffe to the 4 1/4 x 2 3/4 inch Crushed Curry CS. Adhere the whole piece to the Soft Suede CS on the card front.

Cut two 2 inch strips from the 9 1/4 x 1/4 inch Birthday Bonanza DSP. Apply to the card front so they look like strips of tape, like on a scrapbook page.

I decided to make the inside of the card with a sentiment. I used Whisper White CS 5 1/4 x 4 inches and stamped the sentiment in Memento ink.

Adhere a 5 1/4 x 1/4 inch strip of the Birthday Bonanza DSP to the left side of the insert. Then adhere it to the inside of the card.

And Viola! You have a slightly humorous card to let someone who is having a hard time know that you are there for them.

The stamp set has a few other animals and sentiments, so I made a set.

I hope you enjoyed that card. I am very thankful you stopped by.

Happy New Year! Follow Your Dreams in 2020!

I know a lot of people do not make New Years resolutions. I do. I like to take this opportunity to take a hard look at my life: what am I doing? what do I want to do? what do I want to change? These thoughts inspired this card.

This card just looks so hopeful and magical! It inspires me to try to make my dreams come true!

This card is made using the Stampin’ Up! Leave a Little Sparkle stamp set.

Measurements: Whisper White cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch card base scored at 4 1/4 inches, 3 3/4 x 3 inches and 4 x 1 1/2 inches; Seaside Spray cardstock 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inches; Gorgeous Grape cardstock 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches.

Use Gorgeous Grape ink to stamp the sentiment “Make your dreams come true” onto the 4 x 1 1/2 inch piece of Whisper White cardstock. Leave space on the sides to allow for punching it out.

Still using the Gorgeous Grape ink, stamp the filigree onto the 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 inch piece of Gorgeous Grape cardstock.

I stamped around the edges near the upper right and lower left corners.

Use Memento ink to stamp the unicorn onto the 3 3/4 x 3 inch piece of Whisper White. Tip: Use the Memento ink whenever you want to color with the Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers.

I decided to color the mane and tail with the Stampin’ Up! Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers in Light Highland Heather, Light Seaside Spray and Light Mint Macaron.

Starting with the Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Marker I colored the horn, mane and tail.

Next I colored with the Seaside Spray Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Marker. I colored the mane and the tail.

Lastly I colored the remaining portions of the horn, mane and tail with the Light Mint Macaron Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Marker.

I used the Light Basic Black Stampin’ Blend Alcohol marker for the hooves.

The shadows were enhanced with the Light Smokey Slate Stampin’ Blend Alcohol marker.

Now for some fun with bling! The Wink of Stella Glitter brush is wonderful!

Follow the instructions to start using your pen. There is a black ring that needs to be removed before the glitter will come out. Gently brush the unicorn body with the Wink of Stella until it sparkles. It is hard to appreciate the sparkle in the photo.

Use the Timeless Label punch to punch out the sentiment.

Tip: I lay my punch on the table and use the heel of my hand to depress it firmly and quickly.

Use the Bone Folder to fold the Whisper White cardstock 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inch card base at the 4 1/4 inch scoreline. The Bone Folder helps to make a crisp fold.

Adhere the 5 3/8 x 4 1/8 inch piece of Seaside Spray to the front of the Whisper White card base. Next adhere the stamped piece of Gorgeous Grape.

Apply Stampin’ Dimensionals to the back of the sentiment and the unicorn pieces. Tip: I cut my Dimensionals in half to make them last longer.

Adhere the unicorn to the card front leaving space for the sentiment.

I had put the Stampin’ Dimensionals in the middle of the back of the sentiment. With the unicorn raised up with Dimensionals, that did not look right. I moved the Dimensionals down to the bottom edge and that looked a lot nicer.

And Viola! you have a very glittery card to inspire someone!

I wish you a very Happy New Year! I hope you can find more time to craft because it is so relaxing and helps me stay sane and positive. I wish the same for you! May this coming year be your best yet!

Running Free

Ever felt like just running away from it all? This horse looks like he is running free, which I know we all dream of occasionally. Stamping offers me a chance to escape and relax. In addition, “taking life by the reins” is also invigorating advice. This next series of 3 cards are going to be with an artfully beautiful stamp set. There will also be several different water coloring techniques demonstrated.

This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest, but there was not any name associated with it. I like to look on Pinterest to get new ideas from time to time, especially if I feel a little creative block coming on.

Here is the beautiful and artistic, as well as graceful, stamp set called Let It Ride by Stampin’ Up!. The images and the sentiments go so well together.

The other awesome product I want to bring to your attention is this Gingham Gala Designer Series Paper stack. The 5 colors are just right for Spring and each comes in a large and small gingham pattern.

Measurements: Whisper White card base 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches folded at 4 1/4 inches, Balmy Blue 5 1/4 x 4 inches, Gingham Gala in Balmy Blue 5 x 3 3/4 inches, and Whisper White 4 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches.

You will also need Stampin’ Up! ink in Pear Pizzazz and Balmy Blue, Memento ink, and Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers in Light Basic Black, Light Crumb Cake and Dark Crumb Cake.

The following is a short video demonstrating how I use the Sponging Technique to create the background for this card. Enjoy watching!

I hope that video was helpful.

For a larger stamp, I like to ink it upside down. Using the Memento ink, apply the ink to the stamp while the stamp is laying on the table.

Take care to put the stamp straight down and lift straight up. Keep the stamp on the cardstock for a few seconds to allow time for the ink to transfer. That way you get a nice crisp image.

Use the Pear Pizzazz to stamp some trees on the horizon.

Continue to add trees until you like the horizon.

Now I am sure you noticed that we have a “horse of a different color”! We are going to change that with the Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers in Light and Dark Crumb Cake.

We will start with the Light Crumb Cake. Color the entire horse using the brush tip.

I used the Dark Crumb Cake to trace the hair of the mane and tail with the brush tip.

Continuing with the Dark Crumb Cake brush tip, shade in some areas to add dimension.

Use the Light Crumb Cake to blend in the darker areas with the lighter areas.

Use the light Basic Black Stampin’ Blend alcohol marker for the hooves.

Adhere the Balmy Blue Gingham Gala Designer Series paper to the Balmy Blue card piece.

Next, adhere the stamped horse card piece.

Adhere the entire piece to the Whisper White card base.

Viola! You have a great card to send to someone to encourage them and help them keep moving forward!

Sage Advice from a Dog

We all get overwhelmed with stress at times. What to do for relief? Well, Spot here says to “Keep Calm and Wag On”! Not bad advice, eh? What I really do is keep calm and make cards!

For this card I will again be using Stampin’ Up! Happy Tails stamp set and the Dog Builder punch, as well as the Everyday Label punch, Real Red ink and Memento ink.

Measurements: Whisper White card base 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches folded in half at 4 1/4 inches and burnished with the Bone Folder. Real Red 5 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches, Blueberry Bushel 5 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches, and Whisper White 4 1/2 x 3 inches.

Using the Stampin’ Pierce Mat, stamp the dog in Memento ink to the left side on the Whisper White piece. *Look at my previous post to see how to add spots and the collar.

Stamp the sentiment onto the right side of the Whisper White piece.

Using a scrap piece of cardstock, punch the dog and heart out. We will be using this as a stencil. Lay the stencil over the stamped dog. Stamp the heart in Real Red as shown by the stencil. This will make it possible to punch out the dog and the heart together.

Lay the punch upside down on the table. Line up the image and depress the punch slightly to hold in place. Then press quickly and firmly with the heel of your hand to punch the image out.

Use the Everyday Label punch for the sentiment using the same procedure as above. Now for a new technique!

The new technique is called Sponging. Today I am going to use a Sponge Dauber to do this. I put the Dauber on my index finger. Tap down on the ink pad several times to get some ink evenly over the tip of the Dauber.

Now you are going to put the ink on the edge of the cardstock by flicking the dauber back and forth. Go all the way around the label. Start light and go darker as desired.

Adhere the Blueberry Bushel strip to the Real Red strip. Now adhere the two to the cardbase.

Use the Stampin’ Dimensionals and put them on the back of the label and the dog. I used the Stampin’ Mini Dimensionals for the back of the heart.

Peel off the protective cover on the Dimensionals, adhering the sentiment label to the card front first, followed by the dog, then the heart.

And there you have some sage advice from a dog. A dog?!?!
